CVS and Walgreens are set to launch their generic equivalents of Viagra in the US this month, as the two retailers face potential competition from Pfizer Inc.'s rival,, which will be phased out over a year after its patent expired.
According to a, the impotency drug is available in the USA for about $7.25 a pill, but can cost up to $50 per pill.
Walmart is also set to launch its generic equivalent of Viagra, the first of its kind to hit the market since 1998.
In a statement, Walgreens said: “The convenience of generic and brand-name medications has made the pharmacy division of CVS and Walgreens the preferred generic choice for many customers. Our generic equivalent is available nationwide and is clinically proven to help customers get and keep high-quality pharmaceuticals on their plate.”
Both CVS and Walgreens will offer Viagra at a reduced price and will compete with Pfizer in the US market for the drug in the next two years, it added. CVS and Walgreens will also offer a discount on its erectile dysfunction drug, which will be made available through Walgreens in the next few months.
Pfizer Inc. and CVS Corp. will launch their generic equivalents of ViagraCVS and Walgreens will be able to make the same kind of savings for consumers when it becomes available in the USA.
“We are committed to providing our customers with the best medicine and pharmacy options available at our pharmacy,” said CVS Health CEO David Phillips. “We will continue to make significant improvements to our online pharmacy and CVS’s pharmacy services, but we are committed to continuing to make the most up-to-date information available to our customers.”
Walmart will launch its generic equivalent of ViagraA CVS spokesperson said: “CVS sells Viagra to people for $1.50 a tablet. Walgreens sells the same generic equivalent to Viagra to people for $5.50 a tablet. We will provide all customers and our staff with the price and information in the next couple of months.”
CVS said that it is takingno action as of this morning (May 12, 2011)to warn customers it has taken a “somewhat unexpected step” to compete with Pfizer for the impotency drug’s patent. However, the company has no immediate plans to share the news with the public.
A CVS spokesman said: “CVS and Walgreens are not affected by the launch of this product.
“However, in certain other states, including Ohio, where there is a higher competition, you may be able to purchase Viagra.”
A CVS spokesman said: “In Ohio, a higher-inventive drug patent may not be as strong as in-vivo studies would suggest.“The lower cost of the patent is a concern. It may reduce the availability of these medications.”
Walmart and CVS both said they are committed to making its customers more confident and comfortable with their medicine.
CVS said it will continue to manufacture the impotency drug until “market competition continues to occur and prices are competitive.”
CVS Health CEO David Phillips said: “CVS is committed to making the best medicine available to its customers. We continue to make significant improvements to our online pharmacy, which are designed to provide a direct, patient-focused service to our customers.”CVS said that it has been trying to compete with Pfizer for Viagrasaid it has been “somewhat” successful at trying to compete with CVS and Walgreens and is not interested in selling any of the impotency drug’s generic equivalents.
CVS said it is “somewhat” disappointed with Pfizer’s attempt to sell the drug’s generic equivalents.
Afew years ago, I was at my local Walgreens and had been asked to write a book about my love life. I had just been diagnosed with a brain cancer. I had tried many medicines for other problems, but it took a while. My GP had suggested I write about my past as I had no memory of how I had responded. She had told me that I could not have sex, but she said that I could have sex every other day. I had to try Viagra and I was so frightened and depressed. She said that I did not have a history of mental illness or dementia. I felt very ashamed of what I had done, and I felt ashamed of what I had learned. My therapist, Dr. Burt, explained to me that I was a girl, but I had a lot of experience in sex and thought that I should be able to have sex every other day. She said that I needed to be honest with myself. The therapist was right, and I did not have a history of mental illness or dementia. I had been diagnosed with depression and had tried all of the medicines for that, but it took a while for me to get an accurate picture of the symptoms. I started having sex every other day, and that made me feel really ashamed of myself. My doctor said that I was an adult and needed to be honest with myself, but he told me to try Viagra and I would have sex every other day. I had no memory of how I had responded to the little blue pills that I took. I had always been a girl, but I had been a very shy girl. I didn't want to be judged by others. I was ashamed of myself and ashamed of my ability to have sex. I was scared to go out and have sex. I could not have sex every other day. I tried to be very honest with myself, but it took a long time. I started having sex every other day, but I still had to try Viagra. I had never taken any medicines for depression or dementia before. I felt very ashamed of myself. I was afraid to go out and have sex, but I had always been very afraid of people. I had never had any sex at all. I did not want to go out to go to work, and even had a small amount of sex at work. I did not want to have sex every day. I was afraid that if I didn't have sex every day, I would not be able to have sex, and my partner would not be able to have sex. I had a very small amount of sex at work. I couldn't get an erection for it every day. I had never had a sex at work. I wanted to have sex every day and I could not get an erection at work. I felt embarrassed to tell my partner that I was going to have sex. I could not have sex at work. I couldn't have sex every day. I was afraid to have sex. I couldn't get an erection at work. I was afraid of losing my sex life. I had never had any sex at work. I felt very ashamed of myself and ashamed of the fact that I was not able to have sex. I had never had sex. I could not have sex every day. I wanted to have sex every day. I felt ashamed of myself. I could not get an erection at work.
